Capstone Project
Conceptual Model
This is a sample of my Capstone Project from my Master's in Information Design and Strategy in Communication with Data from Northwestern University. In it I propose a new conceptual model around digital communications entitled the "Intentional Design Model for Digital Communications." It revolves around integrating various visual design elements into communication to better align with human comprehension and increase efficiency in the transfer of information.

The Intentional Design Model for digital communications

Description of how most messages are sent without any thought around design or intention behind method and how the IDM can solve for this issue

More detailed view of each of the 4 phases and their focus
Application
To take the Intentional Design Model from theory to practice the following shows how the model can be applied to the creation of a communication platform (Virtual Therapy), to everyday emails, and to PowerPoint presentations.
Virtual Therapy Platform

Qualitative research around virtual therapy revealed a common theme around patients missing the preparation/decompression time they would normally experience on the drive to and from a therapy office

Given the abrupt shift to virtual therapy, many therapy sessions initially utilized zoom which unfortunately is a generic platform that wasn't designed for the specific needs around virtual therapy
A prototype developed for a new virtual therapy platform that allows for the user to engage in an optional, and customizable, meditation while waiting for their session to begin which creates the specific time to prepare
Email Formatting
Section of the Capstone Presentation showing how most emails are void of formatting and come across as monotone in value while simple formatting changes can reach readers more efficiently

Visual showing how the email formatting choices that follow the Intentional Design Model match with the Gestalt principles of visual perception
PowerPoint
Section of the Capstone Presentation showing how most PowerPoint presentations don't use the tool as a visual medium and thus fall short, while the Intentional Design Model taps into the dual coding nature of the audience through visuals that reinforce the message while removing barriers
